More About Honors Choirs

About

Interestingly, I can find no information about this choir or similar choirs. It could be that with 17 high schools now existing it's too large to co-ordinate as opposed to the 9 high school that existed in 1989. Or it could be that "Honor's Choirs" are just not a thing.

When I started doing the research for this page I couldn't remember exactly which counties were included, but when I posted the question to Facebook I was immediately given the answer that "We don't acknowledge PG County." That made me laugh and remember that in the 80's Southern Maryland truly was distinct from the more northern counties. So, Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary's Counties it is.

Context

In talking with many people over the past few decades, nothing about band or choir in high school seems to be consistent between anyone. I've talked to people whose high school was 400 people and to people whose high school was 2400 people. All School, All county, or Tri-county has a more variable meaning in that context.

Thomas Stone in 1989 had about 1200 people. There were 4 other schools in our County, and I can only assume they were the same size. When I try to estimate how many kids tried out for the "Tri-County" Honors Choir, there is just no way to get a good idea. I was always very proud of doing as well as I did, but in retrospect, I can't help but wonder how I would have done if there were 2400 students in my school alone. Checking online, I can find out all of the schools in the Tri-County group and remove any from the list that were not built by 1989. This gives Nine High schools.
