Icy Strait, Entrance to Glacier Bay
Ok, I’m cheating a little by making this its own section. You have to pass through the Icy Strait area on your way to and from Glacier National Park but don’t think there is nothing to see. The scenery in this area is wonderful and it’s a great place to see whales and otters.
Once again we were worried the day would be ruined by clouds, but by mid morning everything cleared up and the weather was beautiful. Esp note the ship in picture one for a sense of scale.
The last picture in this set takes some explaining. On the north to south route you will Leave Glacier National Park, pass through the Icy Straits and head left past Cape Spencer Lighthouse on your way to sea. What should be a major attraction and pointed out is the mountain range in this area. At this time of day they will be perfectly lit, covered in bright snow, and are among the tallest mountains in North America. Add to this the fact that they start at sea level and they are absolutely huge. Unfortunately it was not clear so the picture I got only hints at what the view could have been. Very strange the only mention of this view I had was in one guide book. I think it is called the Fair Weather Mountains
