Mt Healy Hike, Denali National Park
So what do you do if you have to catch the bus to the next location at 2pm ? Hike to the top of the closest mountain, and get back really quickly so you don’t get left of course.
Its about 2-2.5 miles and 1,700’ feet to the overlook so you have to move fast. Louise opted for a nice breakfast and some well deserved relaxing. I got a trail bar, and a 7 am bus ride to the trail head. Even so it was a close call to get to the top, back to the room, and shower in time for the 2pm bus to the Mt McKinley lodge.
The views from the hike were not the best in the world, but I would have enjoyed it more if I had more time to hike the ridge line on the top (this sounds familiar huh?). The first hour of the hike is mostly in the trees with very few vistas. At the 45 min mark you get above the tree line and can see for miles. If I had the time I would have hiked somewhere in the park proper, but with only the time available there were some nice views.
