Asheville NC and the Biltmore Estate
A short trip this time to Asheville for a long weekend. We had not been to the Biltmore Estate in 10-15 years and heard that they had opened some new areas of the house, added some new wine tastings, and that the Inn on the property was an excellent place to stay. That works for us.
Hotel prices in the area have definitely gone through the roof and most of the hotels in the area have moved to variable pricing based on the day of the week. If you’re thinking of this trip its worth skipping the weekend and going during the weekday. We ended up staying Sat night at a different property and then moving to the Biltmore Sunday and for the rest of the trip.
Both places we stayed were fine, but the Inn on Biltmore is definitely a cut above most anywhere.
The main focus of this trip is of course the main house on the Biltmore Estate. Built in 1895 for about 8 million it's listed as the “largest home in America”. Yep, it’s pretty nice. Unfortunately there is no photography allowed inside the house, so I had to get a couple of pictures from the internet. They don’t really do it justice, but if you like the idea of touring an “American Palace”, this is your place.
Since we were here last they have open a handful of new rooms and the complete tour is rather long with quite a few stairs.

This was the largest change since we were here last. 15 years ago, there was just the winery. Now, they have made it into a small village area with the Winery, 6-7 stores, a Resturant, and a farm.
