A fun trip, but not a lot of pictures.
And for the final Hotel point trip of 2021 it's back to the Beach. This time to Nags Head NC.
For a trip that was rather busy, I have almost no pictures. Probably because I saw a bunch of places that were interesting to see but not that interesting to take pictures of. While it's interesting to be there, the actual site of the Wright Brothers National Monument is just a large empty field, Jocky's Ridge is a big sand dune, and Pettigrew State Park is a Lake.
Still, there are plenty of things to do in Nags Head NC and it's only a 3hr drive from Raleigh making it a great 3 day weekend excursion. Head out after work on a Thursday and you can wake up at the beach on Friday ready to go.
This was a trip to burn some hotel points so I don't have any tips on great hotels or places to stay, but the Marriott Towne Place Suites was fine and has a good central location. No view of the ocean but it does have an access path.
There are a bunch of things to do but I found that none of them are going to take the entire day so you should plan on multiple things for each day. You can easily group The Wright Brothers National Monument and Jocky's Ridge, or Fort Raleigh and the Bodie Lighthouse. The town of Duck with the boardwalk takes a bit longer and with the drive that is most of a day.
If you want excellent food I can't praise The Kill Devil Grill enough but if you want lunch on the beach Fish Heads Bar and Grill has a great view and fun atmosphere the drinks are better than the food.
I had a great time catching up with my old friend Terry Donahue for dinner and can't believe that we both forgot to take any pictures. We will do better in the future.
