More on the "Lets Visit every State Park in North Carolina" series. We have the four "Lake Parks" in the southeast of the state. Without a boat there is not much to see at any of them but were surprised to find that three of the parks had swimming areas. We tied these with a trip to Wilmington and Fort Fisher to bulk up the trip a little bit.
It had been 30 years since I visited the Fort Fisher park and where I was there last it was just sand and dunes as far as you could see. In 2024 they finished rebuilding the main fort embankment, a visitors center, and some nice walking trails. Worth it if you are in the area and have some time to kill.
